Boy run over by train
December 19th, 2006
Ahmedabad: In a first incident of its kind before this year’s Uttarayan, a 14-year-old boy was run over by Botad-Ahmedabad train when he was running across a railway track, near Sharda Mandir crossing, on Sunday evening to catch a kite. The victim, Rajendra Solanki, said police sources, stayed at Silver Park apartments in Bhudarpura.
Rajendra died on the spot and passersby informed the police and railway officials.
“At present we have registered a case of accidental death. Statements of the family members will be recorded after they get over from the shock,” said Ellisbridge police station officials. Uttarayan, the festival of kites, every year proves to be fatal, especially for children.
With Uttarayan nearing, accidents while flying kites are the biggest worry for the city police. Last year, just prior to Uttarayan, the Ahmedabad police commissioner had issued a notification banning kite flying or kite catching on busy roads and near railway tracks to avoid accidents.
