50,699 errant drivers booked

New Delhi: In its week long drive against errant drivers in accordance with the high court orders, Delhi Traffic Police has caught a total of 50,699 drivers for breaking traffic laws and realised a sum of Rs 2,32,000 as fines.

In all, driving licenses of 8,584 drivers have been punched and 2,028 vehicles were impounded in the last one week. To keep a check on reports of corruption, senior officers are conducting random checks in the field in several parts of the city.

‘‘The internal vigilance unit and senior officers are visiting their areas to supervise the functioning of their staff and monitor their activities. Motorists are also advised to adhere to the law to avoid prosecution,’’ said Qamar Ahmed, JCP (traffic).Statistics of an offence-wise break up show that the police caught a maximum number of offenders for driving with tinted glasses.
