19 killed in different road accidents in Karnataka

Bangalore : As many as 19 people have been killed in six different road accidents reported in Karnataka since last night, police said.

According to information reaching the police headquarters here, seven members of a family, including two children were killed, while two others injured, when a car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry last night near Bagepalli about 100 km from here late last night.

The victims, hailing from Dharmavaram in Andhra Pradesh, were returning home, when the lorry driver, while trying to overtake a vehicle, hit the car.

In another accident reported from Kolar last night, Deputy collector of Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, his wife and another person were killed on the spot when a government car in which they were travelling collided with a truck on the outskirts of this town.

The dead were identified as Gangadhara Reddy, his wife Umadevi and car driver Swami. The couple’s daughter Meghana was seriously injured and admitted to a hospital in the town.

Near Hiriyur in Tumkur district, about 120 km from here, three persons were killed when a KSRTC bus collided with a lorry on NH 4 during the early hours today. The dead were identified as bus conductor Ananda, passenger Chinnamalai and a 18-month-old child Pradeep. 13 others were injured in the incident, police said.

In the fourth mishap occurred near Ankola in Uttara Kannada district this morning, four persons were killed when a ore-laden truck rammed into a tractor trailer near Sankanala village.

All the four travelling in the tractor died on the spot, while three others were injured. They deceased were identified as Veerappa, Chandragouda, Yellappa belonging to Hubli and Vittala Shetty of Sankanala. Nine persons were travelling in the ill-fated tractor, police said.

Basavaraja Kittale, a truck driver was killed when two trucks collided near Ranebennur APMC market, about 300 km from here, this morning.

In yet another mishap a motorbike rider Narayanaswamy, was killed near Shiglaghatta, about 60 km from here, when his vehicle was run over by a goods truck, police added.
