Safe Driving Lessons

ALLAHABAD: A week long road safety awareness campaign which was inaugurated by Group Captain Anil Tiwari VM Station Commander at Air Force Station, Bamrauli concluded on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Tiwari stressed on the need of inculcating safe and defensive driving techniques not only among air warriors but also among their families and children.

Several functions including guest lectures by safety manager of IOC and Petroleum Conservation Research Organisation, distribution of pamphlets and posters on road safety, medical check up of drivers, poster and slogan competition for children, etc. were organised during the campaign. Later, prizes were given to the safest driver, best technician, best slogan and poster.

According to World Health Organisation, 1.2 million lives are lost every year in road accidents. Of these 10 per cent of deaths occur in India. Common reasons attributed for road accidents include rash driving, using mobiles while driving, not using seat belts/helmets etc. Besides, unsafe road conditions lead to accidents especially at night when the death rate is four times higher than the day.

Wing Commander Sandeep Gupta, chief engineering officer of Air Force Bamrauli said that pamphlets highlighting various safety measures for driving were distributed among air warriors and school children.
